A small selection of basic self-service supermarkets, furniture stores, appliance and DIY hardware chain stores. There is no guarantee that staff speak English, however little more than basic Dutch should be necessary to find and order or pay for goods.

• Aldi: Very low cost hypermarket chain selling B-brand foods as well as non-food products such as cheap computers, DVD players and clothes
• C1000: Large supermarket chain selling standard produce as well as gluten free and international products
• Dirk van den Broek: Discount grocery stores with a wide range of goods on offer for the lowest prices in the Dutch market 
• Hoogvliet: Chain of supermarkets throughout the Netherlands
• Jumbo: One of the fastest growing supermarket chains in the Netherlands with a wide range of food and non-food items
• Konmar: Supermarket chain with a wide array of goods including Italian, Indian, American and Kosher food. They stock an organic or environmentally-friendly alternative in virtually every product group 
• Super de Boer: Well-stocked top-end supermarkets with stores all over the Netherlands stocking many well-known brand names

Furniture & Appliance Shops

• BCC: For white goods, TVs, computer equipment, audio, digital cameras and mobile communication devices
• Brugman Keukens: A large chain selling modern-style fitted kitchens and bathrooms, shower cabins, tiling 
• Dixons: High street chain selling consumer electrical goods, such as audio equipment, computers, kitchen appliances and mobile phones 
• IKEA: The largest chain of furniture shops in the world. For indoor and outdoor furniture, sofas, dining tables and chairs, book shelves, futons, kitchens and storage containers. With branches throughout the Netherlands 
• Media Markt: Chain of stores selling a wide range of white goods (fridges, washers, cookers), kitchen equipment such as coffee makers and food processors, computers and laptops, photo and video equipment, TVs, DVD players and other players such as Ipods

Building Material, Hardware & DIY

• Gamma: chain of DIY stores with paints, hardware, indoor and outdoor lighting, kitchen and bathroom equipment and garden decking and fencing.
• Formido: One of the Netherlands' leading DIY retailers, with a wide assortment of DIY goods including paints
• Hornbach: German DIY chain store with six branches in the Netherlands. For building materials, trees and shrubs, aquatic animals, flooring, kitchens, paint and light fittings
• Karwei: One of the Netherlands' leading DIY stores for flooring, solar panels and a wide range of hardware goods
• Praxis: Hardware and DIY mega-store chain for DIY saunas, bathrooms, kitchens, lighting and wall coverings. Card-holding customers are able to collect air-miles
