Transport

The Netherlands is a relatively small and densely populated country. In recent years it has become increasingly difficult to ensure fast access within the Netherlands.

Many Dutch people regularly have to endure traffic congestion and train delays. The Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management is responsible for transport and is endeavouring to solve the bottlenecks in the road network and to improve public transport.

In addition to the train and car, the bicycle is one of the most important means of transport in the Netherlands, particularly in the major cities and above all Amsterdam. In addition, many Dutch people cycle as a form of recreation.
