Monday 9th April 2007High Days and HolidaysPublic holiday, bank holiday, feestdag, call it what you will, long weekends like the Easter break can be a worker's beacon on the annual calendar. Some days, like the upcoming Ascension Day and Whit Monday are religious and apply to several countries, while the national days are just that, uniquely national - think Koninginnedag (Queen's Day) coming up later this month! State and schoolIn some countries (notably the UK), public holidays which fall on a weekend are replaced by an off day the following Monday but this is not the case everywhere. While most schools, banks and many shops will close on these days, emergency services, police and hospitals remain open for business.
