Lambert van Meerten Every day Lambert van Meerten (1842-1904) bought a property on Old Delft in 1892, He had everything demolished and used the land to have his dream house 'Oud Holland', 'Old Holland', built for 100,000 guilders. It became a canal property in Neo-Renaissance style. The house has been open as a museum since 1909. The different rooms show the extensive tile collection of Jan Schouten. In 1428 the gate was turned into a prison, a function it held for exactly four centuries. During these four centuries, suspects of murder, theft and coin forgery as well as debtors have been held prisoner in this building. In 1828 tours were started for visitors, and the building became a museum. We would like to inform you of the temporary closure of the museum due to renovations.
